On March 5, members (and others) of the Sacramento Section went on our March First Sunday Drive. I have always enjoyed these drives for the unexpected variety you may see on any given month. Such as a 1967 Unimog  Doka. Or as in this drive, a 1956 Continental Mark ll. A brother of one of our regular participants decided to forgo his Mercedes and bring this rare car.

It was a car designed to be the equivalent of a Rolls Royce, and was priced accordingly. In the 2 years of production (1956-1957) they made 3,000 of them and despite being over $10,000 (when a new Cadillac was maybe $5,000 or $6,000) they lost $1,000 per car.

Anyway this car got all of the participant’s attention at our rendezvous point.

Our start had a hiccup – one of the participants missed a turn and the rest of us – like lemmings – followed.  When we pulled over to the side of the road I couldn’t understand the problem until I noticed that our drive leader and a few cars were missing from the front! Contact was established via cell phone, and once we were back together the drive proceeded along some wonderful scenic roads between Woodland and Winters. Due to our heavy rains one of the planned roads was closed due to flooding but U Turns are allowed.

Lunch was wonderful in Winters, thanks to the leader Allen Wrenn.
