Sacramento December FSD - A Celebration of Mercedes Large and Small

Sacramento
Sunday, December 4, 2016 -
10:00am to 2:00pm
Rio Vista
California

A facet that I have always enjoyed about our First Sunday Drives is the fact that one never knows who - or what - will show up. And for this one we had a mini celebration of variety from Mercedes-Benz - specifically from the 1960s.

In addition to 2 300SEL 6.3s - one of whom counted as the original owner band member David Crosby, we had a 1967 230SL Pagoda and - get this - a 1967 DoKa Unimog. I had to find out what the DoKa was and that is a Unimog with 4 doors and a rear seat. Also showing up was a W108 sedan. I am wonderinkg if that icon of the 1960s, David Crosby, summoned them.

We had a drive through our Sacramento River Delta and a popular ride on our small (6 car) ferry boat, The Real McCoy

Lunch was at Rio Vista at the Point Restaurant. Rio Vista is the site where that wayward whale, Humphrey, made 2 appearances in 1985 and 1990.

And since it is below the Delta where the Deep Water Channel begins for ocean going ships to West Sacramento, we had a surrealistic view of an ocean going ship heading to West Sacramento right outside our window.
